Woman’s body found near pond in Khon Kaen, police investigating
A woman’s body with painted red nails was discovered near a pond, her neck showing signs of strangulation. The police are investigating whether it was a concealed murder. The body has been sent for an autopsy, and efforts are underway to locate her relatives.
Police in Khon Kaen province are investigating the death of a woman found near a pond in Ban Phu Khumbao village. The discovery was made yesterday afternoon by locals, leading to an immediate response from law enforcement and medical personnel.
The deceased, an unidentified woman with painted red nails, was found wearing a red short-sleeved t-shirt and denim shorts. Approximately 150 centimetres tall with fair skin, she appeared to be between 40 and 50 years old. Her body was discovered lying face-up near the water, with no identification documents on her.
Somboon Pholom, a 67 year old local, recounted that he was tending to his cattle nearby when he noticed a white pickup truck stuck in the mud close to the pond. Upon approaching, the vehicle sped away. Suspecting something unusual, Somboon shone a light into the pond and discovered the woman’s body.
“It was common for people to gather and drink around this area on weekends. Although there were occasional arguments, it never escalated to violence, let alone death.”
Assistant village headman 54 year old Preecha Sasroi stated that upon receiving reports from the villagers, he and the village headman inspected the scene and subsequently informed the police.
“The woman wasn’t familiar to anyone in the village. There was some speculation that she might have been a night worker, but no one could confirm her identity.”
Body found
Residents reported that around midnight, a white Isuzu pickup truck was seen driving near the pond but got stuck in the mud. Villagers paid little attention to the vehicle at the time. It was only when someone went fishing and frog hunting that the body was found.
Police found 70 baht (US$2) and a receipt from a local convenience store in Ban Wa branch on the woman’s body, which they have kept as evidence. They are now trying to trace her relatives using the receipt and other clues.
Police Colonel Pawit Saengarun from Ubolratana Police Station revealed that the initial autopsy by doctors at Ubolratana Hospital indicated she had been dead for approximately six hours. However, the exact cause of death could not be determined immediately. The body has been sent for a detailed forensic examination to ascertain whether the death was due to foul play.
Efforts are underway to track down the woman’s identity and locate her family members for further investigation. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the case.
