Khon Kaen man accused of fatal assault at village event

A 53 year old man from Khon Kaen province has been accused of assaulting a fellow villager, resulting in the latter’s death. The incident occurred at Wat Pho Ngam on March 30, where Thanin Saenbut allegedly attacked 50 year old Thewa, his neighbour, causing serious injuries that led to his death in hospital.
Thida, the daughter of Thewa, recounted that her father and Thanin were from the same village and had no prior disputes. On the day of the incident, a village merit event was being held when she was informed of the attack on her father. Despite attempts to save him, Thewa succumbed to his injuries.
Thida expressed her wish for Thanin to take responsibility by covering the funeral expenses and surrendering to the police at Wailuwan Police Station. She stated that forgiveness would be possible if Thanin came forward, but if not, the police should pursue the case to its conclusion.
A 75 year old local, Sawat, who witnessed the event, described Thanin punching Thewa in the face and kicking him in the jaw, followed by two more kicks to the ribs. Villagers intervened to separate the two and assisted in transporting the injured Thewa to the hospital. Sawat mentioned being unaware of any previous issues between the two men before the incident, reported KhaoSod.
Police Colonel Pipat Phimklom, Superintendent of Welu Wan Police Station, informed reporters that police began their investigation after receiving a complaint from Thida earlier on March 30 morning. Initial inquiries revealed that Thanin fled the scene following the incident.
Following his death, the victim’s daughter filed a legal complaint, seeking full prosecution against the suspect, reported ch7.
Police have since issued a warrant for Thanin to provide testimony and will formally charge him according to legal procedures. The suspect has already made contact with police and is expected to appear for questioning tomorrow.
