A tragic incident unfolded when a 73 year old monk was brutally murdered in his quarters. Two small cats were found wandering around his lifeless body. The discovery was made by a fellow monk who became concerned when the elderly monk did not appear for his morning alms collection.

On the morning of yesterday, September 19, police officer Taweesin Srisuriyachai from Bueng Malu Police Station responded to the incident at Nong Mek Temple, Saothongchai subdistrict, Kantharalak district, in Sisaket province. The crime scene was a single-storey concrete monk’s quarters with separate rooms, one of which was the living quarters of the deceased monk.

Upon arrival, police found bloodstains in front of a television stand and the body of 73 year old Phra Sen Thirasiro, lying on his back. He had a deep wound on his head caused by a sharp object. The area was cordoned off while forensic experts from Sisaket province were called in for a detailed examination of the crime scene.

The most heartbreaking sight was that of two small cats, one white and one orange, that Phra Sen had cared for, pacing around his covered body.

The first to discover the body was Phra Korakot Itthitecho, a 41 year old resident monk. He recounted that he became worried when Phra Sen did not attend the evening prayers the previous day and failed to show up for the morning alms collection.

At approximately 7am, he went to check on Phra Sen, finding the door locked from the inside and getting no response despite repeated calls. After peering through a window, he saw the tragic scene and immediately called for help and alerted the police, reported KhaoSod.

Phra Sen had been residing at the temple for over 10 years and had been a monk for 30 rainy seasons. The community is in shock over the brutal nature of his death. Locals have gathered at the temple, urging the police to swiftly track down the perpetrator and bring them to justice.
