Burmese mother allegedly kills 7 year old daughter in Bangkok house

A Burmese mother allegedly killed her daughter, aged 7, at a house in Bangkok before fleeing the scene on Tuesday, March 31.

The girl’s 50 year old grandmother, Nan, took the body of her granddaughter, Su, to Synphaet Seriruk Hospital on Tuesday and told medical staff she did not know what caused the death.

A doctor examined Su and reported marks consistent with strangulation on her neck. A further autopsy found the girl died from a lack of air, prompting the hospital to report the case to Min Buri Police Station.

Officers later questioned Nan, who told investigators she suspected Su’s mother, 30 year old Myo, of killing her daughter. Police then went with Nan to investigate the house where Su and Myo had been living.

Nan told police that Myo had previously left Thailand to work in Dubai and had recently returned. On the day of the incident, Nan said Myo left the house carrying a bag and told her she would move out to live somewhere else.

Nan said she did not ask where Myo planned to go, but went to check on Su in her bedroom and found the girl had already died. Nan told police she saw a nylon rope around Su’s neck, with the other end tied to a backpack containing six bottles of water, totalling nine litres.

Nan said the backpack was tied to the rope and thrown from a window.

Police said they are collecting evidence and will seek an arrest warrant for Myo if the evidence confirms murder. Authorities said the motive remains under investigation.

Neighbours told Channel 6 they had not noticed anything unusual. They said they knew four Burmese nationals lived at the house: Nan, Myo, Su and Nan’s husband.

The neighbours said they had seen Su cycling around the community and playing at a playground, but had never spoken to her. They added that the girl appeared healthy and cheerful, and said Myo did not show any signs of cruelty in public.
