Cannabis shop raid in Lampang: Teenagers found consuming marijuana

A cannabis shop raid resulted in the discovery of about ten students, including a 14 year old, consuming marijuana within the premises. Residents, distressed by the situation, reported the establishment, leading to an investigation and legal action against the shop owner.

Yesterday, at 5.20pm, a special operations team from the Lampang administrative department conducted a raid on the cannabis shop, led by Chatchawan Chayabut, the Provincial Governor of Lampang, along with Phumpanya Nawatrakulphisut, the Provincial Police Chief, Chanathip Samyam, the Deputy Governor, Prasong Laon, the Provincial Secretary, Thanarat Saithep, the District Officer, Khomsan Bamrungyat, the Police Station Chief, along with other officials from the Lampang Health Department and Education Office.

The inspection followed complaints that the shop was a hub for students and youths to smoke cannabis, causing distress to the neighbouring community. The shop was equipped with a dedicated area and paraphernalia for users to smoke within.

The officials found a significant amount of prepared cannabis and discovered ten teenagers, the youngest being 14 years old, smoking cannabis. The shop owner, referred to as A for anonymity, was also present. The officials seized 1,941.35 grams of dried cannabis, 10,005 baht in cash, 63 rolls of dried cannabis, and eight pieces of cannabis smoking equipment.

Initially, the officials informed the shop owner of the charges: selling controlled herbs (cannabis) for trade without permission under Section 46 of the Act on Promotion and Protection of Traditional Thai Medicine B.E. 2542, selling controlled or processed herbs (cannabis) for trade to those under 30 years of age, pregnant women, or breastfeeding women, selling controlled herbs to students, academics, or students, and selling controlled herbs for smoking in business places.

The accused and the evidence were handed over to the investigating officer at the Lampang City Police Station to proceed with legal actions, reported KhaoSod.

Patong Police conducted a crackdown, apprehending seven individuals on Bangla Road and Soi Sane Sabai for their alleged involvement in the illegal processing of cannabis buds. Read more HERE.
