5 cafes in Ari, Bangkok worth checking out

Our guide to the coffee spots that have everyone talking (and working remotely)

The Thaiger key takeaways

  • Ari’s cafes stand out for their authentic charm, welcoming vibes, and emphasis on quality coffee and brunch options
  • Popular spots like Yellow Lane, Josh Kaffa, and Porcupine blend community, events, and good food to create lively neighbourhood hubs
  • From hidden gems to well-known favourites, Ari offers spaces where locals and visitors can linger, work, or enjoy coffee without feeling rushed

Ari wasn’t always Bangkok’s coolest neighbourhood for coffee lovers. A couple of years back, it was just another residential stop you’d probably skip past on the BTS without much thought. Then businesses started pouring in, probably because Ari felt less hectic than downtown. Now? Good luck finding a seat at cafes in Ari on weekends.

What’s great about Ari’s cafe scene is how natural it feels. These aren’t corporate chains trying to go viral on Instagram (though the photos do turn out pretty great). They’re spaces run by people who actually care about coffee and creating somewhere you want to hang out.

If you need solid WiFi, a decent brunch, or just a proper flat white, you’ll get why these places are always packed.

Yellow Lane Cafe

Details:

Some places feel like a secret, even when the queue’s already curling around the pavement. That’s Yellow Lane on Soi Ari 1. On weekends, it’s rare to breeze in without waiting, but no one seems to mind. Maybe it’s the garden-like calm. Maybe it’s the atmosphere, filled with green hues. Either way, people linger.

The real pull? The food. Their brunch menu is like a rite of passage. And the eggs benedict? Surprisingly on point. Rich, warm, reassuring. The kind of breakfast that reminds you you’re not doing too badly after all. Coffee’s good too, not life-altering, but steady. A safe bet in a city of coffee extremes.

Events are held on the regular, pets are welcome, food and drinks are good, what more could we ask for?

Josh Kaffa (at Josh Hotel)

Details:

This one’s different, it’s technically a hotel restaurant but works more like a neighbourhood cafe. The space has that relaxed lobby vibe with comfortable seating that makes you want to camp out with your laptop all day.

The food’s pretty European with some Thai touches, and they take coffee seriously, with two options: Italian classic and 3rd wave. Here, you’ve got the perfect late-breakfast menu. Check out their brunch section, opt for a sandwich, or build your own brunch board.

For something a little more hefty, check out their pasta and burger menu. The choice is yours, but one thing is for sure: this isn’t your typical cafe.

Porcupine Cafe

Details:

Porcupine does things a little differently, but still tasteful. What we like about this place is how creative it feels without trying too hard. It feels nice and cosy, just like a friendly neighbourhood cafe. Lots of freelancers and artsy types hang out here, but it’s not pretentious.

Of course, the coffee here is good, but you should really try out their cakes and desserts as well. But it’s the vibe that makes this place special. If you are planning to visit anytime soon, be sure to keep an eye on their Facebook page for any events.

A good cafe feels like a community. Just recently, in September, Porcupine Cafe held a Life Drawing session, something you definitely don’t want to miss out on, especially if you love coffee and art as much as we (and Porcupine Cafe) do.

NANA Coffee Roasters Ari

Details:

You’ll spot NANA’s glass-fronted building peeking through the trees before you even reach it. The cafe is warm with a touch of greenery and modernity that somehow feels calming despite the crowd. Inside, there’s plenty of seating, stretched across two stories with natural light streaming in and garden views that make you forget you’re in the middle of Bangkok.

NANA’s menu covers over 30 single-origin beans, each roasted in-house with detailed tasting notes, and baristas craft drinks using siphon, pour-over, and espresso methods. Fair warning: it gets busy at peak hours, and you might feel a bit rushed when there’s a queue, but the coffee and food are worth it.

some time blue cafe

Details:

This is one of those cafes you’ll walk right past if you’re not looking carefully. Slightly hidden away in Soi Phahonyothin 2, some time blue cafe has that vintage atmosphere that feels weirdly comforting despite the darker colour palette. It’s a bit of a walk from Ari station, but it’s absolutely worth the trek.

The cafe’s got a laid-back, almost secretive vibe. The vintage decor and intimate setting make it feel more like an old-fashioned living room than a cafe, which is exactly why people keep coming back.

The coffee is good, no questions about it, and it’s fairly priced, too. The dirty or shaken americano is among the highlights. But their sourdough equally steals the show, and it’s something you definitely want to try out when visiting.

Making the most of Ari’s cafe scene

Just so you know: parking in Ari is genuinely terrible, especially on weekends. Take the BTS, everything’s within walking distance from the station. The neighbourhood’s compact enough that you can easily hit multiple cafes in one trip, which is honestly part of the fun.

Weekends get crazy busy between 9am and noon, just FYI. If you’re planning to work, weekday mornings are quieter. New cafes keep popping up in Ari, but these five are the ones we keep going back to for good coffee, good vibes, and spaces that make you want to stay way longer than you planned.
