Where to enjoy a quick beach getaway at Thung Wua Laen Beach, Chumphon

From island paradise to big city living, Thailand has everything a traveller can dream of. In recent years the country has become a hotspot for tourists all looking for a tropical and wildly affordable getaway. With commonly known, fan-favourite beaches in Koh Samui and Krabi, the restful vacation tourists seek may be cut short due to overcrowding.

For those wanting a restful and quiet beach retreat, look no further than Thung Wua Laen Beach in Chumphon, Thailand. Resting in between Bangkok and Phuket is a lesser-known but lovely getaway for tourists looking for a restful beach retreat, away from crowds and city life.

Summer Beach cafe

One of my personal favourite cafes was Summer Beach. With a beachfront view, access to the water, affordable prices, a beautiful setting and great food, it was a lovely way to spend the day. For those willing to pay for fine dining, they also had a range of luxury food items and a bar.

Full Moon restaurant

If you’d like a taste of the Western world, the Full Moon restaurant is located across from the Bull Statue and they have the best burgers. As a plus, of course, the local staff were more than happy to help and they also provided free Wi-Fi!

Albatross Guesthouse

For budget travellers like myself, Albatross Guesthouse provides the perfect private room stay. However, if you aren’t keen on local noise, it may be a better choice to choose a resort closer to the beach. For almost 300 baht per night with a welcoming host and a short walking distance to the beach, could you really ask for more?

If you want live music, soft jazz and the blues are a great way to end the evening at Maliblues Bar. A creative spot, Maliblues is perfect for those who love to dabble in the art scene and escape into beach life and community. They even provide accommodation and dinner for those wanting to stick around for all of the fun.

Maliblues is right on the beachfront, giving it a higher price than that of budget hostels, resting around 1,600 Thai baht per night.

If you’re planning to have a longer getaway near Thung Wua Laen Beach, make sure you have enough cash available as the nearest ATM is about 2 to 3 kilometres from the beach and most places don’t accept cards.

Also note, although widely used in major cities like Bangkok, Grab is not available for the most part in Chumphon so be prepared to take taxis, tuk-tuks, or rental scooters to get around.
