Do you still need Covid-19 travel insurance to enter Thailand? Here’s what you need to know

With its stunning white sandy beaches, majestic temples, and delectable cuisine, Thailand is a paradise waiting to be explored. And if you’ve been dreaming of visiting the Land of Smiles during the pandemic, it’s time to start dusting off those suitcases and planning that dream vacation! After months (years!) of stringent restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, travellers looking to explore Thailand will be happy to hear that the country has finally eased their travel restrictions. From vaccination to travel insurance, here’s what you need to know and prepare before travelling to Thailand this year.

Are vaccination and Covid-19 test results still required to enter Thailand?

According to Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, H.E. Mr Anutin Charnvirakul, international travellers no longer need to show proof of vaccination when they arrive in Thailand. Moreover, you also don’t need to show ATK or RT-PCR test results to enter Thailand. You can basically travel freely without any Covid-19 restrictions anymore.

You also no longer need to obtain a Certificate of Entry (COE) or Thailand Pass. This means that you don’t have to download any mobile app anymore.

However, if you have symptoms of Covid-19 on arrival, the officials at the airport may recommend you to get a Covid-19 test on arrival.

Do you need Covid-19 insurance to enter Thailand?

You don’t need Covid-19 travel insurance to enter Thailand. Still, having travel and health insurance is highly recommended for added protection during your trip.

But if you’re arriving from or travelling to a country that requires negative PT-PCR test results, then you need to have health insurance coverage of at least 10,000 USD to cover any potential Covid-19 treatment if they test positive during your time in Thailand. The quarantine officers may randomly check for proof of insurance. If the officers find that you don’t have it, you’ll need to purchase health insurance before proceeding with immigration.

To ensure that you are fully covered and have a worry-free trip, you can consider getting an inbound travel insurance package from the Thaiger. There are a lot of options for you to choose from, but it will ensure that you are covered for Covid-19 treatment as required by the Thai government. It covers other medical expenses, trip cancellations, and other travel-related issues as well. Therefore, whether you need Covid-19 coverage or not, the insurance will still be beneficial to you. The best thing is that you can easily buy your coverage online with various payment options!

Why does Thailand offer a free Covid-19 test?

Thailand is ready to welcome all visitors with open arms. However, some countries, such as China and India, may ask for a negative PCR test before letting visitors in (and their own citizens returning home). In order to correspond with these rules, Thailand offers free Covid-19 tests to ill visitors and will vaccinate international tourists who request them at reasonable prices.

Do you need a hotel booking or proof of address?

The answer is a resounding yes! If you’re planning a trip to the Land of Smiles, be sure to have your documents ready. It’s important that you have your hotel bookings and/or proof of address handy when entering the country. After all, it’s always better to be safe than sorry!

Now that you know what you need to enter Thailand, there’s no excuse not to start packing our bags and planning the ultimate adventure and enjoying all it has to offer.
