A Chinese young woman bought and decorated a top-floor apartment transforming it into a luxurious penthouse with a stunning sea view despite concerns from her family. The 97 square metre apartment, located in a small seaside town in Fujian province, China, became a haven for the woman, 26 year old Tia Chao, offering serenity and solitude that contrasted with the bustling city life she once knew.

Seven years ago, like many young individuals opting for a peaceful life in their hometowns over the chaotic city, the Chinese young woman returned to her small seaside town in Fujian province to live and work.

Against her family’s advice, the Chinese young woman bought a 97 square metre luxurious penthouse on the top floor of a building in a somewhat remote location. The location, coupled with the apartment’s top-floor position, made the price quite reasonable.

Tia’s family was concerned about the apartment’s exposure to sunlight, the need for waterproofing, and storm protection due to its seaside location. However, the Chinese young woman didn’t heed her family’s advice and remained obstinate in her decision to purchase the apartment.

“I decorated the house myself without any family involvement. In fact, during the decorating process, my family members did not support my direction, but I stuck to my ideas and decorated everything according to my wishes.”

After over a year, the house renovation was finally completed.

Tia’s luxurious penthouse was a common small-sized one with two floors and complete living facilities such as bedrooms, dining rooms, kitchens, living rooms, and exercise areas. On the first floor, the Chinese young woman chose medium tones such as white, grey, and black as the main colours, which made the space look deep and luxurious.

The Chinese young woman also expanded the balcony in the living room and kitchen with transparent glass doors, utilising natural light, which made the space more spacious and comfortable. At the first-floor staircase, she designed it as an exercise area where she placed a white treadmill suitable for the overall house.

The second floor was a balcony and tea room where Tia could sit back, relax, and unwind after stressful work hours. Since her house was on the top floor, the Chinese young woman had a balcony where she transformed the balcony into a floating garden with various flowers.

“The choice to live alone in a small town gives a strange sense of peace. A slow life also has a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The balcony is covered with flowers, every afternoon I will come out to sit and drink tea, appreciate the flowers, watch the sea sunset, and touch the peace and joy of life.”

In her garden, Tia also installed warm-toned lights which made the quiet night warmer. Whenever friends visited her house, the Chinese young woman would take the projector and screen to the balcony, transforming the balcony into an open-air cinema, reported Sanook News.

“Sometimes you may not be on the skyline every day, but being on the skyline to rest and recharge when you are tired, and inviting friends to party on holidays is also a way of life that heals the mind.

“Different from the hustle and bustle of the big city, in this small coastal area, I found my quiet and relaxed place.”
