Tears of joy flowed when a mother and daughter in northeastern Thailand reunited after 32 years thanks to the power of social media. The heart-rendering story was reported from Ban Si Liam, Khao Khok sub-district, Prakhon Chai district, Buriram province, only three days ago, on April 11.

Emotions were high and tears flowed as the mother and daughter hugged each other for the first time since 1991. A blessing ceremony was quickly organised to celebrate the reunion according to traditional Thai rules.

The overwhelmed mother, 59 year old Suwan Thothong, expressed her joy to the local press, at her house No. 103, moo. 2, Ban Si Liam, Khao Khok sub-district, Prakhon Chai district, Buriram province. She said that it was the best news she’s had in years, and the family will celebrate celebrated the Songkran Festival together.

The heartbreaking story began when Suwan and her husband split up when Sangdao was only one year old, KhaoSod reported. Her husband, who was originally from Si Sa Ket province, left the family home with their daughter. Suwan tried to find her daughter but was unsuccessful in locating either her husband or Sangdao.

After many years, a relative of Suwan’s found Sangdao’s name on Facebook and began talking with her. Sangdao informed the relative that her father had died, and she was now married and had children. Despite not having seen her mother in 32 years, Sangdao became certain that they were the long-lost mother and daughter and arranged to meet Suwan in the Prakhon Chai area in Buriram province.

Sangdao, now 33 years old, revealed that when her father took her to Si Sa Ket, she was only 1 year and 3 months old, and she could barely remember anything. She finished school at 19 and went to Bangkok to work. She got married at the age of 25 and has two children, an 8 year old son and a 7 year old daughter. Sangdao had been trying to find her mother for the past 30 years but had no information. The only thing her father had told her was that her mother lived in Prakhon Chai district in Buri Ram province.

Sangdao said…

“When I was sure that it was my long-lost mother, I contacted the relative and travelled to Prakhon Chai district in Buriram province. When I saw my mother for the first time, I was overjoyed. I had never thought I would see her again. I thought she had passed away. I want to visit her often and hope she is in good health.”

Thanks to the power of social media, Sangdao was finally able to connect with her long-lost mother, and their reunion is sure to capture the hearts of people worldwide
