Police in Phuket are actively compiling profiles of transgender people working in a bustling nightlife area of the city to bolster public safety measures. This initiative, undertaken by local police and administrative officials, is happening along Bangla Road, a popular spot near Patong Beach frequented by tourists.

Head of Patong Police Station Chalermchai Hernsawat explained that this effort is primarily aimed at reducing altercations involving tourists. Additionally, it seeks to motivate locals to contribute to crime prevention efforts by serving as informants.

Efforts to enhance safety are part of a broader strategy to maintain Phuket’s reputation as a welcoming and secure destination for tourists. The island’s economy heavily relies on tourism, and ensuring the well-being of visitors is of paramount importance to local businesses and police.

The initiative sparked discussions among various community groups, with some expressing concerns over privacy and the potential implications for the transgender community. However, officials have assured that the process respects individual privacy and aims solely to maintain public order, reported Bangkok Post.

Phuket remains a top destination in Thailand, known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife. The local police aim to keep it a safe place for all visitors, and this new measure is just one of the steps being taken to achieve that goal.

As this project continues, authorities will monitor its effectiveness and make adjustments as needed to ensure it meets the intended objectives while addressing any community concerns.
