Helmet on TikTok: Kamala cops go viral to keep heads safe in Phuket
Kamala police have launched an innovative campaign on TikTok to promote helmet use among road users in Phuket. The initiative has quickly gained widespread attention and praise for its creative approach to enhancing road safety.
Kamala Police Chief Somsak Thongkliang stated that the campaign was developed following a directive from higher government officials to improve road safety measures. Recognising the significant influence of online media, the police decided to utilise trending TikTok content to reach a broad audience.
The campaign includes short, engaging videos created by the station’s traffic officers. These videos have successfully resonated with viewers and sparked conversations about the importance of wearing helmets, said Somsak.
“We’ve seen a positive response. More people are now paying attention to wearing helmets and are encouraging their families and friends to do the same. This is crucial for preventing accidents and the heartache that comes with them.”
Kamala Police Deputy Chief Wutthiwat Liangbunjinda pointed out that the campaign specifically targets high-risk areas, such as the Khuan Yak curve on Kamala Hill, where accidents are frequent.
By leveraging TikTok, a platform with global reach, the police aim to raise awareness not only among locals but also tourists and other motorcyclists about the importance of helmet safety.
The campaign’s videos feature traffic police officers, including Kiatwasin Sirikarn and Phasakorn Thongthung, who underscored the strategic use of social media to maximise public engagement.
Kiatwasin acknowledged people are always on social media.
“We wanted to present the message in a way that would capture their attention and make them aware of the dangers of not wearing a helmet.”
Kamala Police’s creative use of TikTok demonstrates a modern and engaging approach to road safety, effectively spreading the message to a wide and diverse audience, reported Phuket News.
In related news last week, former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin insisted tourist safety in Phuket must be prioritised ahead of the upcoming high season.
The Thai premier made these remarks during a meeting with tourism-related agencies in Phuket yesterday, August 12, to prepare for the high tourist season from September to February.
