Fiery inferno: Phuket car audio shop blaze torches vehicles

A car audio shop went up in flames in Phuket this morning, sending thick smoke billowing into the air and reducing several vehicles to charred wrecks in a fiery inferno that brought Thepkrasattri Road to a standstill.

The blaze broke out at Sound Technics Sapam, located opposite the Krungsri Bank branch in Ratsada, just after 8.20am today, March 27. Firefighters battled the intense fire for hours before finally bringing it under control.

Four fire engines from Ratsada Municipality and a water truck from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with flames engulfing the entire shop as thick, black smoke poured into the morning sky.

The establishment, known for its custom car audio installations, had multiple vehicles inside at the time—including cars and motorbikes—many of which were reduced to ashes before the fire was subdued. Among the destroyed property were four motorbikes and a half-cab pickup truck.

Chanidapa Mukdee, the shop owner’s mother and acting manager, confirmed that no one was inside the building when the fire broke out.

“Thankfully, no staff or customers were present at the time.”

Initial investigations, backed by CCTV footage, indicate that the fire may have started in a customer’s vehicle while it was undergoing audio system installation. Officers believe an electrical fault could have sparked the blaze, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

Police have called in the Phuket Forensic Science Office to conduct a thorough examination of the scene.

“We’re working closely with forensic experts to determine the precise cause of the fire,” said a police spokesperson. “It’s too early to confirm whether it was accidental or due to negligence.”
