‘You park, we arrest’: Pattaya cracks down for order

Pattaya is on a mission to clean up its act—literally and figuratively. With public spaces overrun by private businesses and traffic jams choking its streets, the city is launching bold new initiatives to restore order and improve quality of life for both residents and tourists.

Leading the charge is Pattaya City Mayor Poramet Ngampichet, who has rolled out two key urban management campaigns with catchy names and serious intent: “Khun Kak, Rao Kep” (You Claim, We Clean) and “Khun Jod, Rao Jap” (You Park, We Arrest).

“The aim is to reclaim what belongs to the public and restore order across the city.”

The “You Claim, We Clean” initiative targets public areas that have been encroached upon by private businesses. These reclaimed spaces will be repurposed for community benefit, such as setting up fire sub-stations to improve emergency response and boost safety for locals and tourists.

But that’s not all. Traffic, a perennial headache for Pattaya, is also under the microscope. Under the “You Park, We Arrest” policy, city officials are teaming up with traffic police to enforce stricter parking regulations.

A pilot zone has been launched, stretching from Wat Chai Mongkhon Road to the Suesarn Intersection. The objective: clear the roads, reduce congestion, and make the streets safer for everyone.

“This is just the beginning,” said the mayor. “Pattaya is taking real steps to become a Smart City: a cleaner, safer, more organised destination that welcomes visitors from all over the world.”

The mayor emphasised that these efforts are not just about enforcement but also education. Public awareness campaigns will accompany these policies to help people understand the importance of respecting communal spaces and traffic laws, reported The Pattaya News.

Pattaya’s bold new direction reflects a growing trend in Thailand’s major tourist hubs, where local officials are cracking down on lawlessness and pushing for cleaner, more liveable cities. With these proactive measures, Pattaya aims to shed its chaotic image and step confidently into a smarter, safer future.

Whether it’s street-side clutter or reckless parking, Pattaya has a message for offenders: your time is up!
