Pattaya night takes a dark turn: Russian tourist mugged in brutal phone snatch attack

A distressing event unfolded in the early hours of today in Pattaya as a 23 year old Russian tourist, reported being mugged and assaulted by two Thai men. The victim, Aleksandra Rychkova, was making her way back to her condominium after a late-night visit to a convenience store when she was brutally attacked, with her phone stolen in the process.

The incident occurred around 2am today near Jomtien Second Road, located in the Nongprue sub-district of the Banglamung district, Chon Buri province. Rychkova was discovered by Wanchai Chaisorn, a 28 year old security guard at a local condominium, who was the first to respond to her distress. Using Google Translate to communicate, Rychkova revealed to Chaisorn that she had been brutally mugged by two men.

The Pattaya tourist police were immediately notified and arrived swiftly at the scene. The Russian tourist, still in a state of shock, managed to relay the horrific details of the assault. She described her attackers as Thai men who had approached her on a motorcycle.

One of the assailants dismounted the motorcycle and, without warning, struck her in the head. The same man then forcefully seized her Realme C1 phone, worth 2,500 baht, before both assailants quickly fled the scene, reported Pattaya News.

The female Russian tourist was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment following the brutal attack. Meanwhile, the tourist police initiated an investigation into the incident, with a thorough examination of the crime scene and a review of the available CCTV footage in a bid to identify and track down the culprits,

“She informed the police that the two assailants were Thai, and they initially approached her on a motorcycle. After dismounting the vehicle, one of them punched her in the head. This particular suspect then forcibly took her 2,500-baht Realme C1 phone and swiftly fled the scene, along with his accomplice.”

In related news, a Russian tourist had a close call when he inadvertently left his iPhone in a taxi on his way to Phuket International Airport on November 3.

The tourist, whose identity remains undisclosed, was able to retrieve his phone in a nick of time before his flight back to Russia took off, all thanks to the combined efforts of the Phuket Tourist Police and an unnamed taxi driver. Read more about this story HERE.
