Pattaya tops Songkran travel list again: Agoda

Pattaya has done it again, cementing its reputation as the ultimate Thai New Year playground. According to Agoda, the vibrant coastal city topped the charts as the most searched Songkran destination among Thai travellers in 2025. And it’s not just locals who are flocking to the festive hub, international visitors also ranked Pattaya as their second-favourite destination after Bangkok.
What sets Pattaya apart? The city boasts an extended Songkran celebration unlike anywhere else in Thailand.
While the traditional festival officially runs from April 13 to 15, Pattaya keeps the water fights going well into April 18 or 19 during its iconic Wan Lai festivities. This extended splashing extravaganza makes it a magnet for tourists seeking unforgettable, wet-and-wild fun.
“As Songkran approaches, we are delighted to see Pattaya again emerge as the number one destination for Thai travellers,” said Akkaporn Rodkong, Country Director of Agoda Thailand. “The city’s festive season and one-of-a-kind experiences are sure to attract many travellers.”

Following Pattaya, Hua Hin and Bangkok retained their second and third spots, respectively, as top choices among domestic travellers.
Chon Buri also cracked the top five, perhaps with a little help from a celebrity of the animal kingdom, Moo Deng, a pygmy hippo who’s captured the hearts of Thai tourists.
For international visitors heading to Thailand to experience Songkran, Bangkok takes the top spot, followed by Pattaya, Phuket, Hat Yai, and Chiang Mai. The festival’s unique blend of culture, chaos, and camaraderie continues to draw global attention.
Adding even more excitement this year are major events like Maha Songkran 2025 at Sanam Luang from April 11 to 15 and the SIAM Songkran Music Festival 2025, which will showcase performances by world-renowned artists. Both are expected to boost tourism numbers even further, reported RYT9.

Meanwhile, for Thais heading overseas during the holiday, Tokyo remains the most sought-after destination.
Hong Kong, Osaka, and Shanghai follow closely, with Shanghai climbing into fourth place, bumping out Singapore, likely due to China’s recent visa exemption policy, which has increased its appeal among Thai tourists.
With travel fever rising and Songkran just around the corner, Pattaya is set to reign once more as the ultimate splash zone for revelry seekers.
