Pattaya security guard robbed in late-night phone snatch (video)

A 68 year old security guard in Pattaya was left shaken and desperate for justice after a brazen thief snatched his phone in the middle of his shift. The robbery occurred in the early hours of February 28, leaving the elderly guard powerless to stop the thief.
Somkuan Chitphak, who works as a night security guard at a Pattaya condominium, reached out to local reporters after feeling that his case had gone unnoticed.
“I had already reported the incident to Pattaya City Police but because there was no immediate progress I turned to social media in the hope of pushing the police into doing something.”
Somkuan added that a man, around 30 to 35 years old, pulled up to his post on a motorcycle and asked for a drink of water.
“I obliged. After finishing the water, the man then demanded 20 baht but when I refused, he lingered, chatting casually before suddenly snatching my Samsung A02 smartphone and speeding away. The phone is worth around 4,000 baht.”
The elderly guard tried to chase after him but at 68 years old, he stood no chance against the younger, fast-moving thief.
Fortunately, the entire incident was caught on CCTV, and the footage has been handed over to Pattaya police. Investigators are currently analysing the video and gathering evidence to track down the suspect.
Somkuan, still shaken by the incident, admitted that he now feels uneasy while working and urged police to act swiftly in arresting the culprit.
“If the police don’t act I fear similar crimes could happen again, not just to me but to other vulnerable workers in the city.”
Pattaya, known for its bustling nightlife, has seen an increase in petty crimes, with criminals targeting unsuspecting workers and tourists.
With CCTV footage providing clear evidence, police are under pressure to apprehend the suspect and restore confidence in public safety, reported Pattaya Mail.

The security guard’s plea serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by low-income workers who often work in isolated conditions, making them easy targets for opportunistic criminals.
