Pattaya hotel thief targets expat and transwoman

A brazen thief with a taste for unlocked doors and dating apps is on the run in Pattaya after targeting two victims in separate hotel-room heists — including a 63 year old Swedish tourist and a transgender woman he met online.

At around 12.30am today, March 28, a hotel receptionist and a Swedish guest marched into Pattaya City Police Station with CCTV footage in hand, demanding justice after a break-in at a hotel on Soi Thepprasit.

The Swedish man, 63 year old Par Mikael Markusson, alerted reception after discovering his room had been ransacked and his brand-new black iPhone 15 stolen.

“His belongings were scattered all over the floor,” said 37 year old hotel staffer Akkarapat Pakkes. “We checked the cameras and saw a man trying to open every door.”

Unfortunately for Markusson, his door was unlocked — giving the thief the perfect opportunity to sneak in and help himself.

But this wasn’t the first time the suspect struck.

Just two days earlier, at about 4am on March 26, a 26 year old transgender woman named Krisana Sinet was robbed after inviting the same man to her room — someone she had met through a dating app.

Once inside, the suspect made off with a piggy bank containing 2,000 baht, a hairdryer worth around 250 baht, a fan valued at roughly 700 baht, and a hair straightener priced at 900 baht.

Police believe the same man is responsible for both thefts and are now working to identify and locate the culprit. Based on previous reports, investigators suspect the thief may be of Cambodian nationality, reported The Pattaya News.

Pattaya City Police are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting evidence from both scenes as they continue their search.

In similar news, a brazen motorbike thief turned birthday celebrations into a nightmare in Pattaya after stealing a student’s bike during the early hours, as seen in a viral social media post.

CCTV footage from Soi Buakhao, captured around 4.15am on March 24, shows the thief making a smooth getaway on a black Honda PCX with the licence plate 4 7973 Chon Buri. The bike had been parked after a friend borrowed it for an errand.

Unfortunately, the remote key had been left in the front storage compartment — a careless mistake that allowed the thief to strike with ease.
