Motorbike rider arrested for wheelies in Pattaya tunnel
Police arrested a motorbike rider performing wheelies in a central Pattaya tunnel after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The rider is now facing legal action.
A video clip showing a man performing wheelies on a motorcycle inside the Central Pattaya underpass quickly gained attention online. The clip, about 26 seconds long, shows the rider wearing a long-sleeved shirt from a well-known delivery service company. The caption read, “When the customer says they’re hungry,” drawing numerous views and shares.
The police confirmed that the rider’s actions were illegal. The latest developments in the case reveal that today, August 14, law enforcement officials began investigating the incident.
Police Colonel Navin Teerawit, Chief of Pattaya City Police Station, ordered Police Lieutenant Colonel Phanupong Nimsuwan, Traffic Inspector of Pattaya City Police Station, to lead the investigation. They coordinated with a special operations unit to track down the individual featured in the video, reported KhaoSod.
After thorough checks, police located the man in an unnamed rented room near Wat Tha Kradan in Bang Lamung district. The 25 year old rider, identified as Thawatchai, was apprehended.
The police then took him in for questioning and charged him with reckless driving endangering public safety. His motorcycle was also seized as evidence, and the case will be forwarded to the Pattaya Provincial Court for further legal proceedings.
In related news, a reckless sedan driver fled from the scene of a deliberate crash after smashing into a motorcycle taxi rider and dragging him about five metres on a road in Bangkok. The motorcyclist was injured in the collision but miraculously survived.
Another motorcycle rider chased after the negligent motorist but could not catch him.
CCTV at the Phasi Charoen Canal Intersection on the North Side in the Nong Khaem district of Bangkok captured the incident between a motorcycle taxi and a sedan at 9.48pm on December 31 last year.
