Rayong: Help needed to make Christmas special for HIV-affected children
In a heartfelt appeal from the Camillian Social Centre in Rayong, they shed light on the lives of the 45 children under their care who are either living with HIV or affected by it.
The centre has been organising a cherished annual tradition since 2006, where these children are taken to Big C Rayong for a special Christmas shopping trip. This simple yet empowering act allows them a rare opportunity to choose something for themselves, a luxury that they seldom enjoy given their circumstances.
The noble cause was previously backed by the Jesters Care for Kids. Their support played a pivotal role in making this yearly trip possible for the children. However, since they ceased their operations, the responsibility of fundraising fell onto the shoulders of the volunteers at the centre.
Last year, despite the challenges, they were successful in raising enough funds for the trip. This year, unfortunately, the response to the fundraising efforts has been disappointing, thus putting the much-anticipated Christmas trip at risk.
The Camillian Social Centre’s plea is simple yet profound. They ask for help in making these children’s Christmas a little brighter and happier, a time when they can own something that they have chosen. The centre believes that this small act of kindness can bring a significant difference in these children’s lives, giving them a sense of ownership and joy, which is often missing from their lives because of the harsh reality they live in, said the centre’s spokesperson.
“Being an orphan gives you very little choice in what you have in your life, this opportunity gives these kids just a little choice, just once a year.”
