An elderly man was found unconscious on a roadside in Pattaya and later died, potentially due to the cold weather conditions.

The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre was alerted to the incident in Soi Khao Talo on Sunday, January 12. Local police and rescue volunteers were dispatched to the scene.

Upon their arrival, a large gathering of people was present at the location. Rescue teams promptly administered initial first aid while the man, 75 year old Thongrai Phatprom’s children observed his condition. Despite their efforts, Thongrai passed away shortly after.

Thongrai’s 55 year old daughter, Mam, shared that her father frequently exercised by walking in the area. She had not seen him earlier that day until a neighbour informed her of his condition. Mam hurried to the scene, witnessing the rescue workers assisting her father. She mentioned being unaware of any health issues he might have had, noting that he was generally strong, though he consumed alcohol regularly.

Nong Prue police reported no signs of physical violence on Thongrai’s body. Rescue workers suggested that the unusually cold weather might have caused him to go into shock, which could have contributed to his death, reported The Pattaya News.

In a related incident, a 53 year old man was found dead in his garden in Mueang district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, after reportedly stepping outside to urinate. The man was discovered by his stepson, who had gone out for a cigarette on the morning of January 12. Upon finding the man, the stepson alerted the village head and locals, who then notified the police.

According to the Department of Disease Control, from October 22, 2020, to February 27, 2021, 21 deaths were reported due to cold weather conditions. The majority of the dead were males aged between 24 and 84, with an average age of 52. Contributing factors included inadequate clothing, chronic health conditions, and regular alcohol consumption.
