Crime doesn’t pray: American nabbed nicking from Pattaya donation box

A shocking robbery unfolded early this morning in Pattaya, when a 62 year old American man was caught stealing from a donation box outside the local police station.

The bizarre crime was driven by the man’s claim of desperation after losing his ATM card and being unable to buy food.

At around 2.30am today, April 2, Pattaya police received an alert from the public about a foreign man seen stealing from the Father Ray Foundation’s donation box, located outside the police station.

Officers quickly responded, arriving at the scene to find a large, disheveled man using a stone to break open the stainless-steel box. Inside, he was found stuffing coins, 100-baht bills, 20-baht bills, and even foreign currency into his wallet.

Upon questioning, the suspect was identified as 62 year old John, an American national. Police searched his luggage and discovered his wallet containing various bills, along with his passport.

During further questioning through an interpreter, John explained that he had been at a beer bar along Beach Road earlier in the evening. He claimed he had lost his ATM card and was unable to withdraw money.

With no funds and feeling extremely hungry, he decided to break into the donation box to steal the money he needed for food.

John’s explanation didn’t stop police from taking swift action. The police detained him for further questioning and proceeded with legal action.

Despite his claims of desperation, the theft of funds intended for charity is a serious offence, and John now faces legal consequences for his actions, reported Pattaya News.

This bizarre incident has left locals and tourists in shock, with many questioning the extreme lengths the man went to satisfy his hunger.

In similar news, four armed robbers targeted a grocery store in a worker’s camp in Phuket, stealing nearly 1 million baht in cash and gold.

The robbery occurred on March 25 at around 12.30pm when the 45 year old shopkeeper, a Myanmar national, was alone. The robbers, wearing helmets, entered the shop, threatened her, and locked the door. They then bound her hands, feet, and mouth before making off with the valuables.
