Chinese tourist found dead on Pattaya beach with unexplained injuries

A 40 year old Chinese tourist, holding a Thailand Privilege Card visa, was discovered dead on Yin Yom Beach in South Pattaya yesterday morning, April 5. The man, who had bruises on his forehead and neck, was found face down behind a hotel.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Saijai Khamjulla of the Pattaya City Police Station was informed of the incident at 7.30am. The tourist, dressed in a white T-shirt and jeans, showed signs of injury, including a fractured right eye socket and blood from his nostrils, according to an initial assessment.
A doctor estimated that the death occurred six to 12 hours before the discovery. Nearby, a mobile phone and a slipper were found, and his passport and bank passbook with 60,000 baht (US$1,740) were on his person.
A hotel staff member cleaning the beach area spotted the body and notified the police, confirming that the Chinese man was not a hotel guest. Immigration records revealed the man entered Thailand with a tourist visa under the Thailand Privilege Card scheme, which caters to affluent frequent visitors.
He first arrived in the country in 2023 and had been travelling in and out regularly, with his last known address in Jomtien, approximately 2 to 3 kilometres from the site of the incident.

Police Colonel Anek Srathongyu, head of the Pattaya City Police Station, stated that the exact cause of death remains undetermined. A preliminary report from the doctor suggested the man might have slipped, hit his head on a rock, and subsequently lost consciousness, potentially leading to drowning.
The body is being sent to the Police General Hospital in Bangkok for a comprehensive autopsy to ascertain the cause of death, reported Bangkok Post.
