Caretaker killed in brutal Pattaya rent dispute
A shocking incident unfolded yesterday as a violent altercation led to the tragic death of a caretaker at an apartment complex in Pattaya. The conflict erupted after a woman, upset over being asked to pay her rent, allegedly summoned a group of over 10 men who attacked the caretaker, resulting in his death.
At 12:10am yesterday, December 31 last year, Pattaya’s Sawang Boriboon radio centre received a report of a brawl with an unconscious victim at an apartment on Sukhumvit 31, Naklua, Bang Lamung, Chon Buri. Responding quickly, rescue volunteers arrived at the scene, where a large crowd had gathered.
They cleared the area to aid the injured, identified as 53 year old Thaworn, who had no pulse. Despite resuscitation efforts and urgent hospital transport, he succumbed to his injuries.
Praphai, the 50 year old victim’s wife, recounted that before the tragedy, her husband was collecting rent from tenants, reaching room 108, occupied by a woman who moved in on the 10th of this month. The apartment’s rules required tenants to pay a full month’s rent, which he explained to her.
The woman protested loudly, questioning why she had to pay the full amount despite moving in recently. Thaworn attempted to clarify, but the tenant refused to calm down, leading to an argument.
He mentioned consulting the apartment owner regarding the issue. Following this confrontation, the woman allegedly called over 10 individuals, arriving in two pickup trucks, who immediately assaulted Thaworn.
Praphai tried to intervene and was hit in the back during the chaos. She urged the assailants to take responsibility for their actions, vowing to pursue justice, reported KhaoSod.
Police from Banglamung station arrived at the scene to investigate, gathering evidence from witnesses and CCTV footage, alongside video clips recorded by bystanders. They are collaborating with an investigative team to track down the suspects and hold them accountable under the law.
