Fireworks spark devastating blaze at Bang Saen Beach restaurant
Tourists experienced a terrifying countdown escape as fireworks ignited a blaze at a popular restaurant on Bang Saen Beach. Debris from the fireworks landed on the restaurant’s roof, causing a fire that destroyed the establishment in the early hours of today, January 1.
Police from Saen Suk Station, Chon Buri province, received a report of a fire at a restaurant located on Wonnapha Beach, along Bang Saen Beach Road, Saen Suk subdistrict, Mueang district, Chon Buri province. Eight fire trucks from Saen Suk Municipality and neighbouring areas were dispatched to extinguish the blaze.
Upon arrival, the fire was found to be aggressively consuming the famous restaurant. The structure’s thatched roof and wooden decorations provided ample fuel for the fire, intensifying its spread.
Firefighters worked tirelessly, taking over 30 minutes to bring the flames under control. Despite their efforts, the restaurant suffered extensive damage from the fire.
Police are coordinating with forensic investigators to conduct a thorough examination and gather evidence from the scene. It is believed that fireworks used during the countdown celebrations may have sparked the fire by dropping embers onto the restaurant’s roof, reported KhaoSod.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and ensure appropriate legal action is taken.
In related news, chaotic scene unfolded on December 27 evening on Pattaya’s Buakhao Road when a foreign man allegedly set off a firework, causing injuries and property damage. The incident, which occurred at 8.30pm, left Thais and tourists scrambling for safety as sparks ignited panic and a nearby shop suffered damage.
CCTV footage captured when the man incorrectly positioned the firework upside down, leading to a violent explosion. Pedestrians hurriedly fled the area as the blaze spread to a convenience store, affecting merchandise and adding to the chaos.
Witnesses described the individual, noting his distinct appearance: bald, heavily tattooed, heavyset, and approximately 190 centimetres tall. Despite the commotion, the man reportedly escaped through a bar, evading injured victims who attempted to apprehend him, before being seen entering a ride-hailing vehicle in Central Pattaya.
