Two young bikers killed in collision with lorry after street racing

Two young men, street racing on motorcycles tragically collided, leading to their deaths when a following 18-wheel lorry could not brake in time.

An investigator from Mueang Chachoengsao Police Station, Police Lieutenant Chetthayanin Niamkoaphet, reported that at 11.30pm yesterday, July 14, a call was received about a motorcycle accident involving a large truck on Suwinthawong Road, heading into the city, Chachoengsao.

Police, alongside forensic doctors from Phutthasothorn Hospital and rescue workers from Chachoengsao, rushed to the scene.

At the site, 21 year old Chakraphan was found injured with facial and leg wounds, and 23 year old Phattharapong was found with knee and shin injuries. Both were promptly transported to Phutthasothorn Hospital for medical attention.

The tragic accident involved an 18-wheel truck, belonging to a private company. The truck’s right rear wheel and mudguard were damaged, with visible blood stains. The driver, 34 year old Kiettisak waited to provide a statement to the police.

Nearby, the wreckage of a Honda motorcycle was discovered. The deceased rider, 19 year old Phanuwat had been run over by the truck, resulting in fatal head injuries.

Another motorcycle, also a Honda was found in a nearby grass field, its front end completely wrecked. The rider, 23 year old Thanakorn, lay dead next to Phanuwat, also with a fatal head injury. Forensic doctors sent the bodies to Phutthasothorn Hospital for autopsies.

Kiettisak, the truck driver, recounted that he was transporting sugar from Suphan Buri to Laem Chabang Port in Chon Buri when the incident occurred. He stated that a group of youths on motorcycles overtook his truck before colliding and falling directly in front of it, leaving him unable to brake in time, resulting in the truck running over both the riders and their motorcycles.

A friend of the deceased mentioned that the group had been street racing on their motorcycles. He was at a petrol station when he saw his friends riding together. He followed them and witnessed the accident, seeing sparks fly as the bikes collided before being run over by the truck.

Initial police investigations involved taking the truck driver to Mueang Chachoengsao Police Station for further questioning and reviewing available footage and witness statements to proceed with legal actions.

A bystander captured a video of the youths racing on Suwinthawong Road, the last footage of the two victims before the fatal accident, reported KhaoSod.
