Tragedy struck on the rain-soaked roads of Trat province, unveiling a heart-wrenching narrative of a fatal collision between a rescue vehicle and a woman’s car, highlighting the perilous challenges faced by volunteers in their quest to save lives.

A severe road accident occurred in Trat province, resulting in the fatality of a 36 year old woman, Wanpen Insaeng, and leaving three volunteer rescuers critically injured. The incident happened on Sukhumvit Road, near the Trat Municipality office. The rescue vehicle, en route to another accident scene, lost control due to heavy rain and slippery conditions, colliding with Wanpen’s car.

The collision severely damaged both vehicles. Wanpen’s car, a Suzuki Ciaz with the registration number กค 9522 Trat, was found with significant front-end damage. The rescue vehicle, an Isuzu, was found in a roadside ditch with extensive damage.

The rescue team, all volunteers from the Trat province, consisted of three individuals: 29 year old Chayanon Uppathet, who suffered serious head injuries, 32 year old May Saecou, who was rendered unconscious due to severe injuries, and 21 year old Veerapol Huangim. All three volunteers were rushed to Trat Hospital, reported KhaoSod.

Sungwut Sombatboon, the 28 year old boyfriend of Wanpen, recounted the tragic incident with tears streaming down his face. Both were heading home in separate vehicles, with him leading on his Honda Fino motorcycle, registration number 1 กง 891 Trat, and Wanpen following in her car. On their way home, they encountered a heavy downpour.

Sungwut explained that as they were close to their home in Tha Phrik, he noticed the oncoming rescue vehicle losing control and crossing the lane, colliding with Wanpen’s car. Despite his attempt to swerve away, he too lost control of his motorcycle and sustained injuries.

The distressed boyfriend further revealed that one of the rescue volunteers, who knew him, explained that they had no intention of causing the accident. They were on their way to assist at another accident scene, but the slippery road due to the heavy rain led to the tragic incident.

Trat Hospital later confirmed Wanpen’s demise. This incident underscores the risks faced by rescue volunteers and the potential danger that adverse weather conditions can pose to road safety.
