Tragic crossfire incident in Bangkok sparks nationwide indignation

A tragic incident unfolded in Khlong Toei, Bangkok on November 11, when a crossfire between two rival college groups resulted in the unfortunate demise of an innocent teacher and left another seriously injured. The unfortunate event, reported to the Thung Maha Mek police, claimed the life of Sirada “Jeab” Sinprasert, a 40 year old schoolteacher at Praharuthai Convent School, and injured 19 year old Thanasorn Hongsawat from Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok, Uthenthawai Campus.

Investigation reports indicate the incident was a result of a violent clash between opposing college factions. An anonymous student, who happened to be a friend of the injured victim, provided his testimony to the police.

He claimed that two students, hailing from a rival college, arrived on a motorcycle and proceeded to shoot his friend. Sirada, who was merely passing by the location at the time, was tragically caught in the crossfire and lost her life.

Following the incident, the police questioned a senior from the injured student’s college. He revealed a chilling narrative, stating that a group of juniors from his institution were pursued by students from the rival college. Without warning, two individuals allegedly produced a firearm and discharged five rounds, resulting in the horrifying incident before making their getaway, reported by The Pattaya News.

This incident is not a standalone event, as similar instances of violence have been reported previously between the two institutions. The senior from the college conveyed his sorrow for the victim’s family and highlighted the ease of acquiring illegal firearms online.

The Thai police have committed to pursuing a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice. The loss of Sirada has been mourned nationwide, and her tragic end has ignited a wave of indignation, drawing attention to Thailand’s ongoing issue with firearms. This has been especially noted by the Minister of the Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul.
