Domestic violence shocks Sattahip: Ex-prisoner son assaults mother
The tranquillity of the quaint town of Sattahip, nestled in the province of Chon Buri, was shattered yesterday, as a disconcerting incident of domestic violence came to light. A 51 year old single mother bore the brunt of an assault allegedly perpetrated by her own son, a 28 year old man recently released from prison.
Identified as Ratchaphon, the son’s drug-induced aggression led to an unfortunate incident of assault and verbal abuse, as reported to the Na Jomtien police today.
The mother, known as Kwanchanok, had been out to deliver lunch to Ratchaphon, when he began to display violent behaviour. He reportedly began to insult his mother, while simultaneously causing damage to items around her home.
Kwanchanok shared her belief with the police that her son’s erratic outburst was likely a result of his long-standing drug addiction. Despite her best efforts to encourage him towards rehabilitation, his destructive behaviour persisted, escalating to the point where he physically harmed his mother.
The incident unfolded in broad daylight, with numerous bystanders watching as the police attempted to subdue the aggressive son. Neighbours, alerted by the commotion, had sounded the alarm, leading to the arrival of police officers at Kwanchanok’s home in the Sattahip district. Armed with riot control tools, the officers eventually succeeded in apprehending Ratchaphon, who was described as highly uncooperative and violent.
In the process, Kwanchanok sustained injuries to her left arm, inflicted by her son. Local authorities are now investigating the incident, with charges related to drug abuse, assault, and potential property damage being filed against Ratchaphon, reported The Pattaya News. As part of their ongoing investigation, the police are also considering the possibility of sending Ratchaphon for rehabilitation.
One of the officers who apprehended Ratchaphon shared that his behaviour was extremely aggressive and destructive, It was evident to the officers that he needed professional help.
The incident has left the Sattahip community shaken. As the police continue their investigations and the charges against Ratchaphon are prepared, many are hoping that this unfortunate incident will serve as a wake-up call for those struggling with drug addiction in the community. But for now, the focus is on ensuring justice for Kwanchanok, and rehabilitation for her son, to prevent any such incidents from recurring.
