ThaiBev’s Water Festival 2025 to boost tourism and spending

Thai Beverage (ThaiBev) is set to organise the Water Festival 2025 from April 12 to 15, in collaboration with partners including the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Ministry of Culture.

Event chairman Suraphon Svetasreni stated that the festival aims to enhance tourism and generate over 10 million baht in spending. The festival will support Thai cultural tourism while promoting a positive image of Thailand globally, with a focus on sustainability.

Themed Maha Songkran, Maha Sanook (The Grand Songkran, The Grand Fun), the event will feature various festivities in cities such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Phuket, Udon Thani, and Khon Kaen.

In Bangkok, celebrations will take place at renowned tourist sites including Wat Pho, Wat Arun, Asiatique the Riverfront, Tha Maharaj, Iconsiam, and Khlong Ong Ang, alongside Chinatown in Yaowarat district.

Highlights include a parade of Buddha statues from five royal temples, a bike tour around Bangkok, and kayaking in Khlong Padung Krung Kasem.

Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports Jakkaphon Tangsutthitham stated that the Songkran celebrations will enhance the country’s soft power and align with the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025 campaign.

This year’s event is expected to be the largest yet, with at least 50 billion baht anticipated to circulate nationwide, doubling last year’s figures.

A press conference was held to announce the Water Festival 2025 in Bangkok and major provinces from April 12 to 15.

Key attendees included Suraphon Svetasreni, chairman of the organising committee and adviser to the senior executive vice president of Thai Beverage Plc; Jakkaphon Tangsutthitham, vice minister of the Tourism and Sports Ministry; and Nitikorn Kraivichien, director of Arts and Culture Promotion at Thai Beverage Plc, reported Bangkok Post.

In similar news, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is encouraging all Thais to wear elephant pants from their respective provinces during the upcoming Songkran water festival to promote Thai culture and local identity.

Before chairing the first meeting of the National Soft Power Strategies Committee at Government House, the 38 year old PM, dressed in blue elephant pants from Kanchanaburi featuring a Jullien’s golden carp design, explained that she had received over 50 pairs from different provinces. She chose the Kanchanaburi design to complement her cream blazer.
