Thai woman shoots abusive husband dead in act of self-defence
A Thai woman shot her husband dead at their shared home in Chon Buri after he brutally abused and threatened her with a gun.
Officers from Phanthong Police Station investigated the shooting at a house in the Phan Thong district of Chon Buri at approximately 10.40am yesterday, December 16, accompanied by rescuers from the Dham Ratsamee Maneerat Foundation.
The owner of the house, a 36 year old Thai man named Chumpol, was found in the bedroom. He was kneeling on the ground next to a bed, with his face pressed against the floor. Chumpol sustained eight gunshot wounds, five of which passed from his back through to his chest.
Two firearms, a 9mm pistol and a .38 revolver, were discovered at the scene, alongside clumps of hair scattered on the ground. The hair was identified as belonging to Chumpol’s wife, 39 year old Anantaya, who was sitting outside the house, crying.
Anantaya admitted to shooting her husband. She explained that they had been arguing over jealousy and financial issues. She said her husband was excessively jealous, even though she neither went anywhere nor interacted with anyone else.
According to Anantaya, Chumpol had beaten her since Saturday, locked her in their home and randomly cut her hair. On the day of the incident, the argument reignited, and Chumpol pointed a gun at her.
Frightened, Anantaya grabbed another gun and immediately shot at Chumpol multiple times, resulting in his death at the scene.
As Anantaya was being escorted to the police van, Chumpol’s father tried to physically attack her in retaliation for his son’s death, ignoring the fact that his son also injured the woman. However, police intervened and quickly escorted her to the station to ensure her safety.
Chumpol was reportedly employed as an assistant to the local community chief and co-owned a barbecue shop with his wife in the province.
Before his death, Chumpol posted on his Facebook account that a fortune teller warned him he would be shot. He wrote that he was prepared for it and unafraid.
