A distressing case unfolded in Pathum Thani province, where a mother confessed to physically abusing her three year old child due to accumulated stress from menstrual pain after a quarrel with her new husband. The 24 year old mother, Piyaporn Pongchan, admitted to hitting her child twice during an interrogation that lasted over seven hours. Authorities have charged her and arranged for her to be detained at Thanyaburi Provincial Court today.

The incident came to light when relatives of the child, including his 47 year old grandmother Wanthana Thongtha and 25 year old aunt Thaddao Jiue, reported the matter to the Khlong Luang Police Station. Investigations revealed that the child had been hospitalised multiple times, with the most recent injuries including fractured ribs, a ruptured lung, a ruptured spleen, and extensive bruising.

Piyaporn, the child’s mother, was summoned for questioning at the police station. She recounted the day of the incident, admitting to losing her temper due to her menstrual pain and an argument with her new husband. She confessed to hitting the child twice in the waist, before comforting the child with a hug and an apology, claiming she had not intended to hurt him.

She further stated that she had never physically disciplined the child before and that she loves her child just like any mother would. Piyaporn revealed that she had been separated from the child’s biological father since 2020, and she had been solely responsible for the child’s care.

His father allegedly did not attend his son’s birth and had visited only once since, despite being asked to sign birth and hospital bills. The child’s grandparents have been assisting with his care, reported KhaoSod.

Piyaporn’s struggle with her estranged partner, her health condition, and the altercation with her new husband resulted in the unfortunate incident. She expressed remorse, stating she had not intended to harm her child.

The police, represented by Police Lieutenant Colonel Singha Singha Chalee, the investigator at Khlong Luang Police Station, have charged Piyaporn with causing serious bodily harm to another person. She has been released but is scheduled to appear at Thanyaburi Provincial Court for her detention hearing today.
