Thai man fatally shoots employee over affair with his wife (video)

Suspect initially warned victim to stay away or face deadly consequences

A Thai man surrendered to police today after fatally shooting an employee in a pickup yesterday, over an alleged affair with his wife.

The incident was reported to Bang Bua Thong Police Station at around 9pm yesterday, May 19, by a 47 year old petrol station worker on Bang Phai-Nong Prao Ngai Road in the Bang Bua Thong district of Nonthaburi.

The attendant informed police that he heard six gunshots while on duty and went to investigate. He spotted a man wearing a white polo shirt and shorts holding a firearm. The suspect was seen placing the gun into his shorts pocket before fleeing the scene in a pickup.

Upon checking a parked pickup at the scene, the attendant discovered the body of the victim, later identified as 33 year old Palathip, and promptly contacted the police.

According to a report by Channel 8, Palathip sustained three gunshot wounds to his right arm and three to his chest. He was found lifeless in the driver’s seat.

His mobile phone and 5,000 baht in cash were untouched. Upon further inspection of the vehicle, officers discovered a .22 calibre King Cobra pistol loaded with two bullets.

CCTV footage from a nearby residence clearly identified the gunman as 40 year old Arnon. He was seen smoking at the scene for four to five minutes following the fatal shooting, before departing in his vehicle.

Palathip’s colleague, 44 year old Jazz, told police that both he and the victim were technicians employed by Arnon, who owned a butcher shop. Arnon had frequently hired them to repair electrical appliances or renovate his shop.

Jazz claimed the motive was an affair, stating that Arnon had recently caught Palathip in a relationship with his wife, named Name.

The two men had previously been involved in a physical altercation, after which Arnon reportedly ordered Palathip to end the relationship and to never return to his home or shop, threatening to shoot him in the head if he did. Despite the warning, the affair reportedly continued, culminating in the fatal confrontation.

Arnon surrendered to police at 1am today. He told officers that he and his wife had two children together, but she had sought a divorce after becoming involved with Palathip. Arnon said he refused to grant her a divorce, and they continued living together.

On the day of the incident, Arnon allegedly became enraged after seeing Palathip visiting his wife, leading him to fatally shoot the man.

Police have not granted Arnon temporary release and have yet to formally charge him. He is expected to face charges under Section 288 of the Criminal Code for intentional murder, which carries penalties ranging from 15 to 20 years in prison, life imprisonment, or the death penalty.

Police have not disclosed if the victim was carrying a gun for self-defense purposes or planning to confront his eventual killer.
