Thai man arrested for producing fake IDs and vehicle plates
A 36 year old man has been apprehended for producing fake identification cards, vehicle registration plates, and tax stickers. The arrest was made at a rented house located in the Golden Town housing estate, behind Future Rangsit, in Pathum Thani province.
According to the investigation, Phumipak Dokbua admitted to creating fake ID cards for 8,000 baht each, counterfeit vehicle registration plates for 3,500 baht, and fake tax stickers for 1,000 baht. He reportedly used internet resources to replicate transport officer stamps and has been operating for more than a year. Customers from various areas would contact him for these services.
Phumipak stated that he never questioned customers about the intended use of the fake ID cards. The demand typically involved creating up to four IDs at a time, with clients providing images and information. He would then adjust details like height and photo appearance as requested, with each card taking two to three days to produce. Additionally, some of his business came from clients outsourcing requests from other sources.
Chief of News Analysis, Police Colonel Napathorn Wachaigung, revealed that the investigation discovered several individuals offering fake ID services on online platforms. The police in Region 1 conducted a sting operation, noting that some vendors demanded deposits and then disappeared, while others delivered the goods, prompting further investigation.
The operation led to the belief that the suspect’s location was a production hub, resulting in a search warrant from Thanyaburi Provincial Court. The search uncovered fake documents, counterfeit tax stickers with holographic features, officer-named rubber stamps, and completed and in-progress fake ID cards.
Pol. Col. Napathorn also mentioned that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend customers who ordered fake IDs. The suspect’s own ID card was found to have used legitimate personal details from another individual, aside from the photo, which was his own. He disclosed a history of drug-related offences, serving three years in prison with release 10 years ago. He had not renewed his ID for a long time, opting to use a counterfeit version with someone else’s name, reported KhaoSod.
Phumipak now faces charges related to falsifying official documents, and further charges may arise as the investigation continues.
