Copyright infringement crackdown: Thai government targets 463 platforms

The Ministry of Commerce is cracking down on 463 platforms selling songs that infringe copyright laws, encompassing both Thai and international music. The platform owners have been instructed to immediately remove the offending products.

Today, the Director of the Department of Intellectual Property, Wutthikrai Leewiraphan, stated that the department is committed to proactive and integrated collaboration with relevant agencies to enhance the effectiveness of intellectual property protection and mitigate instances of copyright infringement.

In the past, the department has agreed to collaborate with both public and private sectors to elevate measures to suppress the sale of infringing products on online platforms. This move supports a conducive environment for trade and investment in the digital business era, aligning with the key policy of the Ministry of Commerce.

It also protects the public from potential harm caused by the use of non-standard infringing products. The department has received excellent cooperation from all sectors, particularly online platforms that utilise the latest technology to monitor and track the sale of infringing products online.

The department was recently notified by intellectual property rights owners about recurring infringements by the same merchants selling products that violate the copyrights of Thai and international music on more than 463 online platforms. The department has instructed the platform owners to immediately remove the infringing products, reported KhaoSod.

The intellectual property rights owners have pointed out that the department’s approach is highly effective. In this case, the infringing products were swiftly removed from the online platforms. The public can report any actions that may constitute a copyright infringement of intellectual property rights to the Department of Intellectual Property’s Intellectual Property Infringement Suppression Division at 02-547-4702, hotline 1368, or through the website www.ipthailand.go.th.
