A Thai drug addict killed his two year old nephew by slamming the boy to the ground outside a house in the southern province of Satun yesterday, March 3.

A relative of the child victim called officers from Tha Phae Police Station and rescuers to the scene. The relative revealed that he heard two thuds and rushed to check the source of the sound, only to discover the boy lying unconscious outside the house.

Unfortunately, the child died on the way to the hospital. The murderer was the boy’s uncle, 35 year old Abdulaziz Yawahab. He was arrested at the scene, still under the influence of drugs. Abdulaziz kept talking to himself and admitted to killing the boy by slamming him to the ground twice.

Abdulaziz’s older brother told the police and the media that the man had a long history of drug use. The family had sought rehabilitation for him multiple times but he always returned to drugs.

The boy’s mother was the suspect’s sister-in-law. She was washing dishes in the house when the incident took place.

Abdulaziz was charged under Section 290 of the Criminal Law: assaulting another person and causing death, which carries a penalty of imprisonment ranging from three to 15 years.

In a recent similar case, social media influencer Guntouch “Gun” Pongpaiboonwet rescued a two year old boy from his drug-addicted father in the central province of Ratchaburi. The father admitted to using drugs but denied physically abusing his son.

The man claimed that the boy played and climbed the shrine outside their home before falling, resulting in multiple wounds across his body.

However, residents insisted that the man was lying, as they witnessed him abusing the boy multiple times. Unable to tolerate the assaults any longer, they brought the matter to Gun. The boy is now under the care of the Shelter for Children and Families in the province.

The boy’s mother reportedly broke up with her drug-addicted ex-husband. The man requested that officials grant him custody of the child and promised to take good care of him, but he ultimately broke all his promises.
