A rare sighting of a sea turtle laying eggs was reported yesterday at Tien Beach on Koh Larn, Chon Buri province. The unexpected event delighted tourists and observers, as the area, known for its high tourist traffic, had never before recorded sea turtle nesting.

Upon learning about the event, Wuttipong Wong-in, director of the Marine and Coastal Resources Conservation Division at the Office of Marine and Coastal Resources 2, along with relevant officials and a veterinarian, planned a site inspection at 1pm.

The meeting point was set at the Marine Safety Control Building in Pattaya (Bali Hai), near the rubbish transfer pier.

Officials intend to relocate the turtle eggs from areas occupied by tourist amenities like deck chairs and umbrellas, as well as from zones at risk of flooding by seawater.

They plan to construct a protective barrier to safeguard the eggs from potential disturbances by tourists and other threats until they hatch, reported KhaoSod.

The sighting of a sea turtle laying eggs on Koh Larn signifies a positive sign for the coastal ecosystem, marking a rare phenomenon. Officials urge visitors to avoid disturbing the area, ensuring the eggs can hatch safely.

In similar news, a magical moment unfolded on Kata Noi Beach as around 70 baby sea turtles hatched and made their way into the Andaman Sea on February 6. However, not all survived the journey, with officials discovering several lifeless hatchlings and one struggling to survive.

The Andaman Sea Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center was first alerted to the hatching by a Facebook user, AU Freedom, who reported the extraordinary sight.

Locals, aware of the importance of protecting the endangered species, had already set up a perimeter around the nesting site before marine officials and conservation teams arrived.
