Thai Airways takes off at new Singapore terminal
In a major shake-up for travellers, Thai Airways is relocating its Singapore operations to Changi Airport’s Terminal 2 starting February 18.
The move promises better lounge access and enhanced facilities for passengers flying the popular Bangkok-Singapore route.
The switch marks the end of an era at Terminal 1, where Thai Airways operated for decades.
The airline, which runs 35 weekly flights (five daily services) between Singapore and Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, will now join other Star Alliance members like Lufthansa and ANA at the revamped T2, Singapore Changi’s largest terminal.
The relocation comes with new benefits and a refreshed lounge experience for passengers. While Thai Airways’ lounge in T1 never reopened post-Covid, T2 offers access to Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer Gold Lounge and SilverKris Business Class Lounge.
However, these facilities still lag behind the state-of-the-art lounges in Terminal 3, which are accessible via a quick SkyTrain ride.
Business Class passengers can enjoy the SilverKris Business Lounge, while Star Alliance Gold members departing in Economy or Premium Economy can use the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge. For those with Priority Pass, T2 also boasts unique food and spa redemption options, including 33.50 Singapore dollars (around 849 baht) off dining at Asian Street Kitchen.
T2, which underwent a stunning renovation, now handles 130 daily flight departures, making it a hub of activity. With expanded floor space, enhanced dining options, and a nature-inspired design, the terminal’s upgrades elevate the travel experience for its 28 million annual passengers, reported Mainly Miles.
In related news, the Government of Thailand announced plans to increase its investment in Thai Airways International (THAI) without reinstating the airline as a state enterprise. This decision was confirmed during a Cabinet meeting in Chiang Mai, where Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira provided updates on the airline’s debt restructuring efforts.
During the meeting, it was revealed that THAI anticipates raising approximately 44 billion baht through a share rights offering, marking the final phase before the company exits a court-supervised debt restructuring process and resumes stock trading.
