A group of teenagers clashed violently on a road in Samut Prakan province, causing significant disruption and damage to vehicles, leading a witness to label them as societal nuisances.

Facebook user Maem posted a video showing a group of teenagers engaging in a brawl with a gang of students near a U-turn median, causing a traffic jam. The altercation not only caused the roadblock but also led to one side damaging the motorcycles of the opposing group. The altercation took place in Phraeksa, Mueang Samut Prakan district.

Maem, the poster of the video, shared her account with Khaosod Online, revealing that around 2pm yesterday, August 21, she was on her way to pick up her child from school. She encountered two groups of teenagers: one group of students in uniforms on three motorcycles, and another group of teenagers in casual clothes, some wearing masks and jackets. One of the student group’s motorcycles abruptly cut in front of a turning truck.

While waiting in traffic, Maem noticed the second group revving their engines beside her. One teenager in this group revealed a knife hidden under his jacket. As traffic moved, the group quickly approached the students, attacking them from behind. The students abandoned their motorcycles, one in the U-turn median and another by the roadside, while one of the attackers used a stick to damage the left-behind motorcycle.

Maem then turned into a mall, but within five minutes of leaving, she saw the fight had already begun at the scene. About 20 minutes later, after picking up her child from school, she noticed police officers had arrived at the scene, with the injured students now with the officers.

“The teenagers seemed determined to inflict harm, acting aggressively. The incident caused significant traffic, and no one dared to intervene because they were armed, though many honked their horns in disapproval.”

Maem captured the incident on her phone after her car’s dashcam malfunctioned. She later saw another local shop owner post CCTV footage of the same incident on Facebook.

Expressing her concern, Maem remarked that such brawls cause unnecessary harm to bystanders, especially after school when many children are around.

“If young children get caught in the crossfire, the consequences could be severe. Even the students who were attacked were with friends – if they had been alone, it might have been worse.

“Some parents might claim their children are good, but incidents like these show otherwise. The youth, who are supposed to be the future of our nation, fighting in such a manner is disappointing. It disrupts traffic, inconveniences people, and damages property. Motorcycles are not cheap, and instead of harming the person, they damage their belongings, which is cowardly.”

Maem added that she did not know the root of the conflict but observed that the aggressors were loud and confrontational even before the fight, reported KhaoSod.

“If they want to fight, they should go to a boxing camp and settle it there. Fighting on the streets like this is not admirable and should be avoided.”
