Rama II roadwork delay: Commuters stuck in traffic jam of frustration
In a move that’s sure to infuriate commuters, the much-anticipated completion of the Rama II elevated road in Samut Sakhon has been pushed back from June to November next year, according to the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT). The delay comes down to technical headaches while building the tricky ascending segments in the Bang Khunthian area.
Transport Permanent Secretary Chayatan Phromsorn revealed that these construction woes have also put the brakes on progress for the Motorway 82 (M82) project.
The 4-kilometre stretch, crucial for linking Bang Khunthian, Ekkachai, and Ban Phaeo, is designed to provide a diversion route whenever accidents or breakdowns bring the bustling Rama II Road to a standstill, Bangkok Post reported.
But it’s not all doom and gloom. In a separate promising update, the Rama IX frontage bridge, part of the elevated section linking the Rama III motorway, Dao Khanong, and the Western Beltway, is expected to be ready just in time for Thai New Year celebrations.
Chayatan offered insight into its innovative design, describing the frontage bridge as a cable-stayed marvel spanning the Chao Phraya River.
*”This structure is set to relieve the notorious gridlock on the Rama IX Bridge.”
The green light for this bridge’s opening hinges on wrapping up the remaining bits of the ascending roads in the Suksawat area. Once everything’s in place, drivers can look forward to a smoother journey across this vital river crossing. Until then, patience seems to be the order of the day.
