Power bank explodes, sparking fire in Chachoengsao home

A power bank exploded due to extreme heat, causing a fire in a bedroom that nearly spread throughout the entire house in south central Thailand.
The incident occurred at 1.15pm yesterday, April 8 in Thata Kiab district, Chachoengsao province. Police Lieutenant Taweechai Chuchom, Deputy Inspector at Thata Kiab Police Station, received the fire report.
Volunteers from Thata Kiab and firefighters from Thata Kiab Subdistrict Administrative Organisation were called to the scene. The fire originated in a single-storey concrete house owned by Wilaiwan Srisakul, who was not home then, as she had left to tap rubber.
It is believed that the fire was caused by a power bank explosion in the bedroom due to the hot weather combined with the heat-retaining concrete walls. Fortunately, no one was in the house, and Wilaiwan’s father returned in time to alert the emergency services before the fire engulfed the entire house.
Wilaiwan’s father stated that he and his daughter had gone out early in the morning to tap rubber. He returned home earlier and was alerted by the barking of dogs.
Upon investigation, he noticed smoke and flames in his daughter’s house and heard an explosion-like sound. He contacted Thata Kiab volunteers for assistance and called his daughter to return home.

The exact cause of the fire was initially unknown. Upon inspection, the melted power bank in the room was identified as the likely cause, attributed to the high temperatures and the heat-conserving concrete structure.
Wilaiwan, the homeowner, confirmed she had not been charging the power bank or left any cables plugged in. She believes the high temperatures caused the power bank to explode, leading to the fire, reported KhaoSod.
She hopes this incident serves as a cautionary tale, advising people to disconnect and remove all electrical devices when not at home to prevent fires and electrical short circuits.
Police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and have urged the public to exercise caution when using electrical appliances at home for everyone’s safety.
