Pet cat shot with airsoft gun by neighbour amid noise dispute

Cat's owner claims suspect involveed in drug use and sale

A Thai woman is seeking justice for her pet cat after a neighbour nearly killed the animal by shooting it with an airsoft gun, allegedly in anger over her loud motorcycle engine.

Officers from Mueang Udon Thani Police Station visited a house in the Sam Phrao sub-district, Mueang district, Udon Thani province, in the Isaan region, following a report of animal abuse on May 6. Police informed Channel 8 that the house is located in a crowded slum community near a landfill.

The homeowner, 20 year old Yupin, led officers to her injured black cat, named Si Muang (meaning “purple colour”). Si Muang was struggling to breathe and had a wound on her neck.

Yupin explained that she owned five cats: Si Muang, Si Fah, Si Khao, Pocky, and Aomsin. Si Muang was her favourite, describing her as friendly and playful. She stressed that her cats had never caused any trouble in the community.

Yupin told police that she believed her male neighbour, known only as Em, attacked her cat. She suspected he shot the animal with an airsoft gun while it was playing on the roof of her house.

Police accompanied Yupin to Em’s residence but he was not present. Officers advised Yupin to take her cat to an animal hospital before lodging a formal complaint at the police station.

During the legal process, Yupin alleged that Em may have acted out of anger over the loud noise from her motorcycle engine.

In a moment of distress, she expressed a desire for Em to suffer the same fate as her cat. She also urged the police to investigate further, claiming that Em was involved in drug use and trafficking.

Another case of cat abuse was reported in January in Buriram province. In that incident, a female cat named Kuay Tiew (meaning noodles) was shot in the right eye with a harpoon. Her owner could not afford the necessary treatment, but fortunately, a local animal clinic assisted her for free of charge.

Kuay Tiew’s owner and neighbours told the media they believed the perpetrator was part of a group known to eat cats, and that the attack was intended to kill her for food. No arrest has been reported in connection with that incident.
