More than 12 million people across Thailand engaged in new year transition prayers, as reported by Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol. The ceremonies, marking the start of 2025, were organised by 24,835 establishments nationwide, under the initiative of the Religious Affairs Department.

A significant turnout was seen online and in person, with over 10,000 individuals gathering at Sanam Luang in Bangkok. This site currently hosts a sacred Buddha relic from China, drawing many to pay their respects.

The relic, believed to be a tooth of Lord Buddha, was brought to Thailand in honour of the King’s 72nd birthday and the 50th anniversary of Sino-Thai diplomatic relations. Those wishing to visit the relic at Sanam Luang can do so daily until February 14, from 7am to 8pm.

The government has facilitated the visit by providing public transport services and offering flowers for worshippers, reported Bangkok Post.
