A New Year’s Eve celebration turned harrowing for a woman in Ang Thong province when a stray bullet pierced her home’s roof and struck her in the stomach. The incident happened as she lay sleeping, trying to calm her frightened cats amidst the noise of fireworks.

Yesterday, January 1, local journalists reported that on the night of December 31, a 60 year old woman, identified only as Jarasri, was injured by a mysterious bullet while asleep in her raised wooden house in Pho Rang Nok, Pho Thong district. The house, with its metal sheet roofing, became the scene of an alarming accident during the festive night.

While recounting her experience, Jarsri explained that she was resting under a mosquito net with her cats around midnight when she felt a sudden sharp pain in her stomach, akin to an electric shock. Despite the intense burning sensation and discomfort beneath her ribcage, she hesitated to wake her sister sleeping nearby, enduring the pain until 4am the following morning.

“I didn’t want to disturb my sister, so I bore the pain until I could no longer ignore it. When morning came, I shared my ordeal with my sister-in-law, showing her the mysterious wound,” Jarsri recounted.

Initially, her sister-in-law suspected it might be from lying on mosquito repellent, but Jarsri dismissed this theory. Later, as she prepared for gardening, she shared her story with her brother.

After inspecting the wound, he realised it was caused by a bullet. They quickly examined their surroundings, discovering a hole in the metal roof and a bullet lying on the sleeping mat.

“It was a shocking revelation to see the bullet. I immediately informed the village headman and filed a report at the Pho Thong Police Station,” Jarsri explained.

The police arranged for Jarsri to undergo a medical examination at the hospital, where doctors cleaned the wound and performed X-rays. Fortunately, the bullet only grazed her, resulting in no severe injury, although she still suffers from swelling and fever, reported KhaoSod.

Local police and forensic officers from Pho Thong Police Station investigated the scene, securing the bullet suspected to be 9mm in size for further examination. Jarsri remains shaken by the incident, voicing her fears and frustrations.
