Thailand faces freezing north and stormy south weather conditions
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) reports that the country is experiencing varied weather conditions, with freezing temperatures and frost in mountainous areas, while the southern regions face monsoons and high sea waves exceeding 2 metres. The forecast for the next 24 hours indicates that the high-pressure system or moderate cold air mass covering upper Thailand and the upper southern region is weakening, leading to a 1 to 2°C rise in temperatures and morning fog in these areas.
Northern and northeastern regions remain cold to very cold in the morning, with central areas including Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as the eastern and upper southern regions, experiencing cooler morning temperatures. Mountain peaks are particularly chilly, with some frost observed, while hilltops also remain cold.
Residents in these areas are advised to maintain their health due to the cold weather and to be cautious of potential fire hazards due to dry conditions. Additionally, caution is advised when travelling through foggy areas.
The northeastern monsoon continues to affect the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea, causing light rain in some parts of the lower southern region. Waves in the Gulf of Thailand are moderate, reaching 1 to 2 metres, and could exceed 2 metres in stormy areas.
In the Andaman Sea, wave heights remain below 1 metre, increasing to over 1 metre in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners are urged to navigate with care and avoid sailing in stormy weather.
Dust and haze levels in upper Thailand are moderate to high, with little change expected due to limited air circulation and weaker winds.
