Microsoft launches AI programme to upskill 1 million Thais

Microsoft Thailand has launched a groundbreaking initiative, the THAI Academy: Accelerating Thailand’s AI Future, aimed at offering over 1 million Thais the chance to gain AI upskilling opportunities.
Announced yesterday, April 21, the programme is part of an ongoing collaboration between Microsoft and the Thai government, supported by 35 partners from both the public and private sectors. This major step aims to position Thailand as a leader in the AI-first era, aligning with the country’s National AI Master Plan.
Digital Economy and Society Minister Prasert Jantararuangthong welcomed the partnership, stating that it fits perfectly with Thailand’s interest in working with global tech giants to enhance the nation’s competitiveness.
“AI is a transformative technology that plays a critical role in positioning Thailand for robust growth on the global stage.”
Microsoft Managing Director, Dhanawat Suthumpun, thanked the government for prioritising AI upskilling.
“Through the THAI Academy programme, we aim to equip the workforce with the skills needed to thrive in this fast-changing landscape. Our goal is to upskill over one million Thais by the end of 2025.”
The programme offers access to the AI Skills Navigator, an online platform providing over 200 AI courses developed by Microsoft and its partners. These courses cater to learners at all levels, from beginners to advanced professionals. Popular starter courses include:

AI Basics: A beginner-friendly course covering the history and foundational concepts of AI.

AI Skills for Everyone: A quick guide to using Microsoft’s AI tools in everyday tasks.

Azure AI: Zero to Hero: Aimed at aspiring developers, this course introduces cloud computing and AI, helping learners build AI-powered solutions.

In addition to the platform, the programme includes targeted initiatives for various sectors. Notable collaborations include:

Government AI Training: Microsoft is partnering with the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC) and the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA) to train 100,000 Thai civil servants in AI. The “GovAI Hackathon” will allow public sector employees to explore AI solutions for national benefit.

Education Initiatives: Microsoft is working with the Ministry of Education to train 4,500 teachers in AI, enabling them to teach 400,000 students across the country.

Cybersecurity: In collaboration with the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), the programme will provide AI and cybersecurity training to over 300 personnel and 10,000 students.
The THAI Academy also partners with major industry players to empower 20,000 SMEs with AI tools, ensuring equal access to learning and employment opportunities across the country, reported The Nation.
