Thai task force seizes 300,000 meth tablets in drug bust

The Surasak Montri Task Force, in collaboration with soldiers, border patrol police, and administrative officers, seized 300,000 methamphetamine tablets after discovering a drug trafficking operation from a neighbouring country today, April 22.

Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, commander of the 2nd Army Area and the director of the Command to Suppress and Prevent Drugs and Chemicals in the northeastern border (NBYorSor.24), stated that the current drug situation still involves smuggling from neighbouring countries in an ant army style.

These smuggling operations typically transport between 100,000 to 300,000 tablets at a time, often packed in no more than two fertiliser bags, making them easy to move. As a countermeasure, officials have revised strategies to include improved intelligence and increased patrol frequency in vulnerable areas suspected to be used by traffickers.

This comprehensive approach has effectively put pressure on trafficking groups, preventing them from smuggling drugs further into the interior.

Recently, the Surasak Montri Task Force, responsible for intercepting drug and illegal substance trafficking in the northern regions, along with the 2nd Control Division of the 13th Infantry Regiment, and other integrated units including the 2108th Special Task Force Company and the 2441st Border Patrol Police Company, received a tip-off.

The report indicated that drugs would be smuggled from a neighbouring country into an interior location at a rubber plantation in Thai Charoen Village, Tha Dok Kham subdistrict, Bueng Khong Long district, Bueng Kan province.

Acting on the intelligence, the task force set up a perimeter around the rubber trading area. Soon, a Honda Wave 110i motorcycle without license plates arrived, and a person was seen picking up one white and one yellow sack near a bathroom.

As officers revealed themselves for a search, the person fled on the motorcycle. The officers discovered the two sacks and found the motorcycle abandoned 200 metres away.

It is believed that the suspect intended to collect the drugs for distribution within Bueng Kan and neighbouring provinces but was thwarted by the officers, reported KhaoSod.

The confiscated drugs were brought to the 2441st Border Patrol Police base for examination before being handed over to investigators for further legal proceedings.
