Men caught with more than 600k meth pills in northeast Thailand

Two men were arrested with a staggering 632,360 methamphetamine (meth) pills after a border patrol police chase in Mueang district. The pair, who attempted a brazen getaway, were eventually caught and taken into custody with their stash of illicit drugs.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Boonlert Wisetchart, deputy commander of Border Patrol Police Subdivision 24, the two suspects were identified as 37 year old Yommana Bannarak and 26 year old Pinyowit Watthan. The duo was travelling in a white Nissan Almera, which was carrying large sacks of meth hidden inside the vehicle.

The operation unfolded late Monday night, April 21, when police received a tip-off that narcotics were being transported from Nong Khai to Udon Thani. The suspects were expected to collect the drugs along their route, and the police quickly set up an ambush. At around 11.30pm, the car was spotted at an intersection in Nai Mueang subdistrict, Mueang district, Nong Khai province.

As the police approached and signalled for the car to stop, the suspects panicked. Rather than comply, the driver of the Nissan sped off, crashing into a police vehicle in the process. The reckless escape attempt continued as both men attempted to flee on foot. However, the police quickly blocked their escape and apprehended them without further incident, reported Bangkok Post.

Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered the three large sacks filled with over half a million meth pills. The meth haul is a major bust, highlighting the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region.

Yommana and Pinyowit now face serious drug-related charges, and their arrest marks another significant success for the border patrol police. The police have vowed to continue their efforts in tackling the growing narcotics trade that threatens public safety and security.

The two suspects are now under investigation, with further legal action expected to follow. This dramatic arrest serves as a reminder of the constant efforts by law enforcement to crack down on drug trafficking in Thailand.
