Thai police seize 12kg of meth worth 500,000 baht in Trang

Officers from the Border Patrol Police Division 43, in collaboration with Division 435, seized 12 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine on Phetkasem Road in Mueang district, Trang province, yesterday, April 16.

Police Major General Rungroj Thakoonpunyasiri, Deputy Commissioner of the Border Patrol Police, and Police Major General Narong Thananantakul, Commissioner of Border Patrol Police Region 4, received a report on the operation’s success from Sub-Lieutenant Kraisorn Longloy, leader of the unit, and Sub-Lieutenant Kongkrakhan Thammachart, deputy leader of the unit.

The operation followed a tip-off about a drug trafficking network planning to exchange drugs near a canal on Phetkasem Road in Ban Pho subdistrict between 7pm and 9pm.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a white animal feed sack under a roadside tree. Inside the sack, they found sealed green tea bags branded GUANYINWANG, wrapped in clear plastic, with a total of 12 bags.

A thorough search of the surrounding area revealed no suspicious people, so the seized items were taken to the Border Patrol Police Division 435 base for further analysis. Tests on the substances confirmed the presence of methamphetamine, a type 1 narcotic, estimated to be worth approximately 500,000 baht (US$15,070).

Police believe this cache belongs to a regional drug trafficking group that coordinates transactions via mobile phone, leaving drugs at pre-arranged locations for collection, reported KhaoSod.

Efforts are underway to trace and prosecute those involved. The seized drugs have been handed over to Mueang Trang Police Station for further investigation to bring the offenders to justice.

In similar news, taking advantage of the disorder caused by a recent earthquake, drug traffickers attempted to move illegal narcotics, leading to the seizure of over 2.5 million methamphetamine pills.

On March 29, police arrested 42 year old Ekalak Krataijun after discovering his pickup truck lacked a license plate. The arrest was announced by the superintendent of Highway Police Station 1, Subdivision 8, under the Highway Police Division.
