Man suffers electric shock during power line theft near police station
A daring incident unfolded today as a man attempted to cut high-voltage power lines just 200 metres from a police station in Samut Prakan, resulting in a severe electric shock and a precarious rescue operation. The man, approximately 30 years old, was found hanging from the power lines after suffering a shock, prompting an urgent response from emergency services.
The incident occurred in front of the Treasury Department Office near the clock tower intersection on Sukhumvit Road in the Pak Nam area of Mueang district. When emergency responders from Samut Prakan Hospital, Ruamkatanyu Foundation, and Poh Teck Tung Foundation arrived, they discovered Bandasak suspended from the high-voltage lines, in visible pain after the electric shock.
An official from the electricity department said, “We had to cut the power before using a cherry picker to reach and rescue him.”
Upon examination, Bandasak sustained multiple burns on his arms and torso due to the 20,400-volt electric shock. He was promptly given first aid and transported to Samut Prakan Hospital for further treatment.
According to a 46 year old witness, Wuttisak Faipewchai, a taxi driver, “I was waiting at the red light when I saw sparks and heard the explosion. Looking up, I saw him on the pole and immediately informed the passing police officers.”
At the scene, police discovered tools indicative of an attempted theft in Bandasak’s pocket, including wire cutters. Nearby, his grey Honda Wave motorcycle was parked on the footpath, and under the seat was a sack containing more cutting tools and a one-meter-long cut wire, reported KhaoSod.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Bandasak climbed the pole intending to steal the wires. However, lacking experience, he inadvertently cut into high-voltage lines, leading to the electric explosion.
